The Lovejoy Ramp Murals

It is called the Lovejoy Ramp Murals, and is a site that features some artwork that was found in a most unusual location. The Lovejoy Ramp, located in Portland, Oregon, was part of a street that was raised above a portion of the city. It stood in its location for many years, and in 1948, a Greek immigrant began painting images of mythology, biblical, and Americana as a way of expressing his vision of his adopted country. They are located next to the rail yard where he worked. Long an urban legend, they have been maintained as a treasure of the city. But the ramp has been torn down, and progress dictates these treasures be relocated. This site tells that story, and how one can participate.
