The World at War

One of the greatest lessons that can be learned from history is that the mistakes of the past can be repeated in the future if society doesn’t learn from those mistakes. On this day that is set aside to remember our nations veterans, today’s Family Site is one that looks to a time when those mistakes were overlooked, and the results are still with us today.

Called The World at War, this site looks at the period between World War I (“the war to end all war”) and World War II. Here one can see how the Treaty of Versailles did not work, how a mad man in Germany came to power, and how the United States came to be a dominant world power. The material here is contemporary, and gives one a sense of you-are-there history. For example, you can see the map of how Europe’s borders were redrawn after World War I.

Learning from the past is important. It is the only way we can pass on to our children the lessons that we have learned. Hopefully they will not make the same mistakes that we have.
