Thinkquest Right or Wrong
When you view a website, the artwork and words on them can be very appealing, the sounds nice to hear, the colors attractive. Wouldn’t some of those look nice on your desktop or web page? Whoa! Those items you are wanting to copy may not be yours for the taking. They may belong to some one else, and your taking them may not be right. It may not seem a wrong thing to do, but it is. But with the help of today’s FamSite, understanding it may be easier.
Called Art Rights and Wrongs, this site is an informational one that emphasizes how anyone who is looking to use copyrighted material on their website obtain permission to do so before copying it. What makes this site so unique is that it is maintained by a team of school age kids, and was awarded the Silver prize in the Art and Literature category of the National Thinkquest Junior competition. There is information and advice from over 20 webmasters on how to obtain permission. There is an interview with the officials from the Library of Congress, trademark, copyright, and license information, as well as links to some very informative sites. There are also some very useful “How to” sections as well.
This is a very cool site (appropriate on this very hot day). It is also great to see young ones involved not only interested in creating a website, but creating one that has such a positive message. I hope they don’t come after me for using one of their pictures for this article. Well, I guess I’ll just have to spend some time reading their site. Enjoy your stop here today.
