War of 1812-1814

As we continue our cyber exploration of sites that reflect the military actions our country has been involved in, today we look at a little known but very significant war. It has been called our second war for independence, as it was with the English. But there is more to it than meets the eye.

The site is called War of 1812-1814, and, as it name implies, is about that war. Here you can learn about the events that led up to that war, which was not only with the British army, but also with the native Indians of our west. At that time, our west was what is today known as the states of Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Michigan. All aspects of the war are covered, such as the role women played, a comparison of the American and British soldier, the types of weapons used, and the Treaty of Ghent. There is an excellent selection of links, as well as information on reenactment groups that are preserving the history of this time in our history.

Tomorrow is the day that has been set aside to honor the men and women who have died defending our country. Let us remember that they have paid the supreme sacrifice so that this country may truly be the land of the free and the home of the brave.
