Make a TV Reduction Plan For The Whole Family
Sit down and talk to your kids about the TV viewing you want to change. Get a copy of schedule of their favorite TV shows and ask them which shows they like the most. Tell them that those are the only programs they should watch. Also, limit their TV viewing of 1 to 2 hours per day, or even less, especially during weekdays of school nights.
Take TV out of their bedrooms
A bedroom is a room for peace and sound sleep, putting a TV inside your kids bedroom will only promote late night TV marathons. Short term effect would be sleepless nights and tired and exhausted days, as your kids will obviously not get enough time to rest. Long term effect would be developing an bad sleeping habit. We all know how crucial sleep is for kids, especially for their growth and development. Taking the television off their bedroom will encourage your kids to sleep early. Put the TVs in public areas on the house.
Set a good example to your kids
Practice what you preach – this should go without saying, your behavior and attitude on the matter deeply affects how your kids react on your wishes. If you want your kids to watch less TV to sleep and rest early, or play outdoors with their kids, then you should show them that your guidelines is ‘okay’ for your as well. Watch less TV yourself, be active and participate in outdoor activities, and play with your kids. Do this and you will be surprised how your kids adjust on less TV viewing.
