Breastfeeding – Nurturing Your Relationship With Your Baby From Infancy

If you have a new baby, you definitely want to start developing a strong mother-daughter/son bond from the start. Breastfeeding is the most basic and probably the best way to construct a strong, loving, and close-knit relationship between you and your baby straight from infancy.

Breastfeed Your Baby

More and more research shows that, mothers who breastfeed their infants are more bonded with their kids. Much of this is associated with the chemical released by mothers (oxytocin) that produces emotions of love, helping mothers develop strong bond with their babies right from the start.

Oxytocin is released by mothers during their birth of their child and skin contact with their baby, particularly through the act of nursing the child.

You can start breastfeeding your baby right in the hospital, minutes after giving birth. Those women who breastfeed early in the hospital will likely have more success in releasing the love chemical.

There are so many good things both the mother and her child can get through breastfeeding. However, it is also undeniable that breastfeeding can be very uncomfortable, especially for first-time moms. So if you’re not sure what to do or you need  assistance or tips, make sure you ask your nurse’s help or better yet, talk to your doctor or breastfeeding counselor while you’re still in the hospital.

Breastfeed your baby for at least 6 months. The more you feed your baby with your own milk, the better. Also, consider breastfeeding up to 1 year of age and maintain regular routines of cuddling and spending quality time with your baby with comfort and love.

If for any reason you can not, or choose not to breastfeed your child, make sure you spend plenty of time together, especially with skin-to-skin contact to get more of the bonding benefits as you can when you breastfeed.
