Cirque Du Soleil

The circus used to be flying trapeze artists, wild animal, cotton candy, and a midway with games and exciting rides. Those types of shows are still around, but there is another type of circus that is making it’s presence known internationally, and it is just as exciting as any one that you have seen before. It is also the subject of today’s FamSite.

It is called Cirque Du Soleil, and is headquartered in Montreal, Canada. It is a theatrical blend of circus arts and street performance, wrapped up in spectacular costumes and fairyland sets and staged to spellbinding music and magical lighting. The results are truly enchanting, a cultural experience that is not to be missed. There are currently 7 shows playing on four continents. One of them, Saltimbanco, is currently playing in my city. This site gives a complete picture of the organization, with a guided tour of them. They are not only entertainers, but also have a commitment to social action, donating a portion of their proceeds to philanthropic organizations. They also have a program called Cirque du Monde, a program that uses circus arts as an alternative way of working with troubled youth.
