eBay Auction Web

A few weeks ago, I promised to go back and visit some of the earlier sites we had visited on the Family Site of the Day, and see how they had stood the test of time. With the holidays and all, I haven’t visited as many as I wanted to. Come to think of it, I have only returned to one. But as we approach the first anniversary of the daily Family Site, I will try to hit a few more.

Today’s retro-cyber visit it to one of the most successful on-line places to buy and sell merchandise. It is called Auction Web, or some may know it as eBay’s Auction Web. Either way you say it, it means the same. It is the best, bar none, of the auctions on the Internet today. Since we last visited, they site has undergone some major changes, both in look and equipment. It is easier to find one’s way around, and with the addition of new servers, quicker to place items for sale and to make bids on items. The amount of merchandise here is truly astounding. There are currently over 182,000 items listed in 371 categories that are available for viewing and buying. Since it’s inception over 4.8 million items have been sold, and is averaging over 4 million hits a day. Those are some impressive numbers.

I have been a user of this site for over 2 years. It has a real flea market atmosphere, one of informality and fun. There is something here for the whole family.
