Father Flanagan’s Boys Town
In the 1960’s, there was song entitled “He Ain’t Heavy (He’s My Brother). That familiar saying was around long before that song was published, and has its roots in the subject of a 1938 film. That film won an academy award that year for Spencer Tracy and his portrayal of the founder of the organization that is today’s FamSite.
The site is called Father Flanagan Boy’s Town, and has been around for since 1917. The town has been around that long, that is, not the web site. In that year Father Flanagan opened his home for troubled children in Omaha, Nebraska, starting on a ministry that continues to this day. His mission of helping boys to grow and become contributing citizens to society has expanded its services from simply providing food, education, and lodging to boys and girls to helping the entire family unit. There is a wealth of services that they can provide, and all are explained here. There is also an interesting section on the history and philosophy of Boys Town, with pictures included.
The love and care that Father Flanagan showed to his original six boys is still very evident in the mission and ministry that is being carried on in his name. Enjoy your stop here today, and share this site with a friend.

I have been researching my family geneology. I just this week found out that my mothers brother Hiram Shuey died in 1945. He was the father of 10 children. I was told that some of his sons went to boys town. I was not born until after his death so I never met him or his boys. Does there happen to be a way to research this?
From what I have read about Boys Town I am greatley impressed. I only wish we had more of such places.
