Gilbert and Sullivan Archieves
Yesterday, we visited a site that taught the basics of music theory and composition. Today we visit a site that is musically oriented as well, and has its roots in history.
It is called the Gilbert and Sullivan Achieves, a site that celebrates the premier light opera composers of all time. Here you can learn about the authors of “H.M.S. Pinafore”, “The Pirates of Penzance” and “Mikado”. The site celebrates not only their music, but also the entire community their shows have created. You can find out about the companies that are performing the shows, as well as the librettos, the books, the pictures, in fact just about anything associated with them. There are links to other sites as well, and a glossary of terms to help the first time visitors understand the concept of “light” opera.
