Lost and Found Sound

Maintaining the history of our country is an ongoing and monumental task. I have found a site that is sponsored and maintained by National Public Radio that is a unique and fascinating site. It truly shows how the Internet can be used to educate and entertain at the same time.

Called Lost and Found Sound, it is a featured part of the All Things Considered program. The basis for the program is to find unusual and interesting bit of Americana that may be in attics, desk drawers, or stuck in a closet somewhere. Some of the gems that have been found include the oral history of a gentleman that witnessed Abraham Lincoln delivering his Gettysburg address (from a distance of 15 feet), a collection of Thomas Edison recordings, the collection of Tony Schwarz, who has amassed over 30,000 recordings since 1945 and has not left his postal code. It is incredible the amount and types of sounds that can be heard here.
