The Golden Age of Hollywood. Spotlights sweeping the night sky, cars lined up for blocks in front of Sid Grauman’s Chinese or Egyptian Theatres, hundreds, no, thousands of spectators lined up to catch a glimpse of their favorite actor or actress. Studio lots, movie moguls, long-term contracts, and an escape from reality.

Today’s site, Palace: Classic Films, is a return to those old days of Hollywood. The days when Clark Gable was the King (long before Elvis), Judy Garland was young and innocent, and gay was a feeling, not a lifestyle. This site celebrates the bygone days by including hundreds of still images of movie stars, audio clips of films and articles on the era. Hear William Holden as Joe Gillis talk about life in Hollywood from “Sunset Boulevard”, view a section on the contribution of black Americans to the silver screen, and my favorite section, a special area for the “B” movies. If you’re not sure what a “B” movie is, check this area out.

Classic films are becoming more and more popular daily. There are at least two 24-hour movie channels showing them without commercial interruption. A national movement is rising to help preserve old and decaying films that are literally crumbling away. The magnetism they hold is unique to each of us. Nostalgia, black & white, an age of innocence, it is something different. Visit this site and see if you are attracted to them.
