PCStats
Today’s Family First site is one that comes to us courtesy of one of our readers, Bob Simmons. He mentioned this site when he visited another of the Family First sites, so I thought I would check it out, and see if it was as good as it sounded. It is a great techy site for all ranges of experience (or lack thereof), and can be a great help when your really need it.
The site is called PCStats, and is, as it name implies, is about computers. Here you can get the latest information about the latest and newest hardware, both on a system and component level. There are excellent reviews, and a hardware section that leaves nothing out. But what Bob mentioned, and I really enjoy, it the section on Beginners Guides. This section has one of the largest online selection of guides that I have seen, and all for free. You can search by keyword, subject (such as 3D accelerators) or by alphabetic order. The subjects range from Computer Error Beep Codes, to Internet Connection Sharing, to Assembling Your Own PC. All of them are well laid out, easy to understand, and (best of all, for me anyway) is there are excellent color pictures to show you the way. The list is kept up-to-date, as are the reviews and product articles. All in all, this is a good site to bookmark.
So the next time it’s 3:00am and that blankety-blank computer won’t boot, just call your best friend on the phone and ask him if you can use his computer to visit this site. I am sure he will be very understanding and will not hesitate to provide you that opportunity.
