Pen Parents

The loss of a child is a terrible, crushing blow to any parent. Whatever the reason, accidental, intentional, or through the actions of others, dealing with the reality that your baby will no longer be there is more than a lot of parents can deal with.

Today’s FamSite is one that can help, or try to help, with that grief and sense of loss. It is called Pen Parents, and is a support network of other parents that are going through the same life experience. Through the use of email, communication is established via this site, to give a parent a chance to express their grief about the loss of their child. There is also a pen-pal type of service that helps match up parents who have lost children through similar circumstances. There is a very touching page where you can write to your loved one, and express your feelings.

Dealing with death is never pleasant. My wife and I lost a foster daughter to murder over 10 years ago. The hurt is still there. A site like this may have helped us at that time. It may help you, or someone you know today. Please keep this site in mind.

  1. I would prefer to write threw letters since I can’t seem to be at the the library all the time. I will be happy to have four penpals to start off with. My story is that I have a beautiful little boy named Marshal who has twin brother named Mason who were born 12/14/2007. they were born at 27wks. Marshal and Mason was weighed in at a wapping 2.8lbs each. Mason only lived for two wks to the hour that he was born. They both had lots of problems at first. Marshal mad it and Mason didn’t. So if you send me a letter at: Dewanna Gilliam *********** (address removed – please contact her directly). I would love to talk more about my story and get some ideas on how to cope with Mason’s loss…. so please any body with something to help me cope mentally would be a BIG help.

  2. I am so sorry about Mason. I lost my big boy, age 22, on Feb. 28, 2010 – his name was Jason. There was absolutely NO REASON for his death. He was a big, healthy college football player – he came home for the weekend – sat up talking with me all night long – went to sleep at 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon, and I wanted him to “catch up” on sleep and we left him to sleep all day and into the night. At 2 a.m., the dog wanted to get in and sleep with him, and when I went in his room, he was dead. Gone. 10 weeks later they were able to tell us that it was not anything drug related (we knew, but kids are kids) and said that he had an enlarged heart. The devastation was beyond belief. I have two daughters 15 and 18 and I try very very hard to be there for them while still staying p eset in this nightmare. I just plain ole MISS MY BOY. I WANT HIM BACK right now. Anyone who can relate to this, please, please please connect with me.
