Pray the Vote
From the first prayer offered at the Continental Congress by Jacob Duch� to Ben Franklin�s dramatic call for prayer during the Constitutional Convention, America has a rich history of reliance on prayer that continues today. Whenever our nation has called upon God for guidance and wisdom, He has answered graciously.
In this election year, the need for prayer is as great as ever. Toward that end, The Presidential Prayer Team is encouraging prayer for the elections through a new initiative, Pray the Vote. The goal of Pray the Vote is simply to stimulate prayer for the fall elections. Believing that when Americans pray we open a window for God to work in our nation, we urge you to get involved. The right to vote�and to vote your values�is one of the most cherished privileges of citizenship.

When asked why they don�t vote, many Americans say they wonder if their vote really counts. Consider the following:
*Texas was admitted to the Union in 1845 by one vote.
*Hitler won leadership of the German Nazi Party in 1923 by one vote.
*The US House of Representatives, in 1801, elected Thomas Jefferson as President of the United States by one vote.
*One vote per precinct passed women�s suffrage in California in 1911.
*In 1941, the Selective Service Act (the draft) was saved by one vote just weeks before Pearl Harbor was attacked.
*John F. Kennedy won the presidency by less than one vote per precinct nationwide.
Think, reflect, respect, pray, and most of all, vote!

I definitely believe in prayer and our obligation to vote to promote what is good, right and moral. However, when we use misinformation to promote prayer and voting, it detracts from our cause! The list above is not entirely accurate. I am no history buff, but I do believe in checking out such things. Snope.com says at least four of these are false: http://www.snopes.com/history/govern/onevote.htm My internet search shows these statements have been perpetuated by many well-meaning sites.
I definitely believe in prayer also and my prayer is that you will see this so that you will be able to respond appropriately. I don’t know how else to contact you.
I went to Catagories clicked on Computers, got to the bottom which was Freebies, clicked on and went to Most Popular Downloads, clicked on page two at the bottom and was bombarded with a bunch of popups some of which were solicitations for bad stuff. Thought you might want to know about this.
I went to the Snopes site, and they are talking about different elections than some of these:
1) they refer to President Kennedy’s election in terms of the state of Illinois, this refers to nationwide;
2) the draft was saved by one vote in 1941, 202 to 203. Not started, just saved.
3) the election that Hitler is referred to is in 1923, on the Snopes site it is 1921. Read William Shirer’s book “Rise and Fall of the 3rd Reich”, a benchmark on the political history of Nazi Germany.
Those are the only ones referred to on the Snopes site that I could find.
