President Chester A. Arthur

I just realized that I have been remiss in keeping up with our visits to sites that tell about the men who have been elected to lead our nation. The presidents of our country are all unique individuals, elected to lead us during trying and difficult times, some more difficult and trying than others. With those thoughts in mind, I though we could spend the coming weekend visiting some of our past leaders.

Today we stop at a site that is about a one-term president. His name is Chester Alan Arthur, and he became president upon the death of James Garfield. He served during an interesting time in our country, the westward expansion of the 1880’s. He was also the president that dedicated one of our most famous national landmarks in the nation’s capitol, the Washington Monument in 1885.
