President Grover Cleveland
We wrap up our weekend with the Presidents by looking at one that has several interesting bits of information about him in history. My daughter is interested in him since her high school is named after him. My grandfather, who was born in 1886, was also named after him.
His name is Grover Cleveland, and he has the distinction of being the only president to serve two non-consecutive terms as our chief executive. He serverd from 1885 till 1889, was defeated by Benjamin Harrison, and then defeated Harrison to serve again from 1893 until 1897. He was the second bachelor elected president, but he became the first one to be married in the White House while in office in 1886. He also made a very big impression on a visitor and his father to Washington in the late 1880’s, one that would have an impact on our nation into the next century. This visitor’s name Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and he would one day occupy the office in which he met President Cleveland.
