Today’s stop on our Presidential website tour takes us to a man who, like President Lincoln, was born in a log cabin (the last president to be born in one). He was also a veteran of the War Between the States, rising to the rank of general. He did not serve in the office for more than a few months before being assassinated by a disgruntled person who was seeking a political appointment. He lived for several months before finally dying of the wounds. There are some interesting links at this site, such as one that describes how Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone, tried to help the doctors save the president’s life. It is very fascinating reading.
