Private Art
The release of the film “Saving Private Ryan” has made for a marked increase in the men who served in World War II. Not so much the military details, but the individual men, the citizen soldiers who gave up years of their lives so that our country and world could remain free.
Today’s FamSite is about one of those soldiers. The site is called Private Art, and is about a soldier named Arthur Pranger. His family has chosen to honor him by sharing his letters home, so that others can share in his experiences in Europe. But the site also honors the men that he served with, the 86th Chemical Mortar Battalion. The site is well designed, with a very nostalgic flavor to it. For example, when you go to the section to meet him, there is a Real Audio clip of President Franklin Roosevelt making his “Yesterday, December 7th, 1941, a date which will live in infamy…” speech. (I am listening to it as I write this). Touches like this make it an interesting as well as informative site.
So take a trip back in time, to a different world, with different values and a different society. It is a trip you will be sure to enjoy.
