Safe web surfing was one of the most important items on my mind when my children started using the home computer. There is so much misinformation out there, so many weirdoes and kooks, that you never know what to expect, and neither do your kids. This can extend beyond the web, to everyday life as well.
Today’s Famsite can help make web surfing a more enjoyable experience, and place a little less stress on you mind. It is called Safe Kids Online, and is a great site for information on Internet safety. Here you can find links to companies that sell software to help limit access to certain sites, links for parents and teachers for information on the Internet (from basics to advanced subjects) as well as some links for kids. There is one section that links to other sites of the same subject matter as this one, i.e., safe web surfing.
One major factor in letting your children enjoy their surfing experience is to trust them. It is a lot like giving them the keys to the car for the first time; you have to trust them sometime. If you have given them the proper instruction on how to use the computer, the same way you showed them how to use the car, then there will be no problems, and you can sleep better at night. Of course, they can’t get your computer up to 70mph on the freeway…. or can they?
