The International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame
Growing up, one of my father’s passions was his bowling league. Every Wednesday night, he and his logging buddies would drive 30 miles to the lanes, and have a great time. Occasionally, we would go on Sunday’s and bowl as a family. My son is a member of a local bowling league, and is helping him to overcome some of the problems he has in school. Bowling is a great family activity that can be enjoyed by almost anyone, at anytime.
Today’s site it connected with bowling. It is The International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame, located physically in St. Louis, MO. It is an on-line version of the actual building, with some items that can’t be enjoyed anywhere else but on the net. For example, one can visit the museum via a multimedia tour, go to the museum store, see the Hall of Fame bowlers, and learn about them, and participate in a weekly trivia quiz. There is also a section on the History of Bowling, as well as the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team Hall of Fame. Why the Cardinals, you ask? That question is answered on the title page of the site, and I won’t give the answer here, so you will have to visit the site if you are interested.
Bowling has a major influence on our sports world. It has a many followers, and more participants than baseball. The pro stars are very approachable, and friendly. The league my son bowls with is sponsored by Hall of Famer Dave Husted (his dad owns the alley), and Dave is usually there working behind the counter when he isn’t on the tour. He and my son are on a first name basis, and during practice sessions, Dave has even given him some one-on-one coaching. That sort of openness and friendship is rare with pro athletes these days.
