The James K. Polk Ancestral Home
Over the past few days Family Site of the Day has visited websites of our Presidents. Every President since Herbert Hoover has established a library, and they are a great resource to learn about not only the man, but also the history of our country. But not every President has a library, but that does not mean that their impact on our country was any less.
Today’s FamSite is the start of a journey to discover the heritage of our American Presidents. Over the next several weeks, we will highlight and visit sites that show the history and character of the leaders we have elected. They will not be just sites that recount the administration of that president, but will attempt to show that like all of us they were human beings.
The site we visit today is called the James K. Polk Ancestral Home, which is physically located in Columbia, TN. Here you can visit the only surviving house where the 11th President of the United States lived, read a short biography of his life, find out about current exhibits, visit a gift shop, and explore other links relating to him. There is an excellent online educator’s resource, which can be used to tie this site to a history or geography lesson.
Enjoy your stop at the home of President Polk, who was the leader of our country at a time when our country was young, and growing, and did not stretch from sea to shining sea. Enjoy your stop here today.
