The Jane Goodall Institute

As civilization spreads its boundaries, the effects on the ecosystems of our planet are seldom taken into account. As our cities grow, the amount of space for wildlife and plants shrink. Today’s FamSite is a visit with a person who is doing something about it, in a very big way.

The site is the Jane Goodall Institute. Founded in 1977, it has a mission, in their own words, of dedication “…to wildlife research, environmental education, and to conservation and welfare of all species, specifically chimpanzees.” At this site, you can get a very clear picture of not only how that mission is being accomplished, but also you can see the reasons for it, and the necessity of it. The amount of information contained here is truly amazing.

A site like this is one that shows a truly good use of the Internet. Without this site, I would probably never have heard about this Institute, and maybe you would not have either. Enjoy your stop today.

  13. hi jane,iam padmini,20yrs doin engineerin in india..its alwayz been my dream since a kid to work with the animals in the wild..jane uv helped soo many people achive their dreams,can u help me too?can u guide me as to wat course iv gotta do exactly to achive my dreams..in india there is less encouragement to this field,hence there is no one out here to guide me at all.iam completly relyin on u jane..plzz help me..this means a lot to me..its nothin but my life..

    I am very much interested to trace and seek the habits and behaviors of animals. In all the animals, chimpanzees seem to be very challenge-drive animal for me which I like to focus on. I am basically a computer science engineer, now currently working as a scholar at China. I am very much interested to continue my masters in chimpanzee research. Furthermore, I have watched many of our sessions on National Geographic Channel and read more about your research on books. When I watch/read them I used to think whether I will be able to have a chance to rome around the south African forest with you to know more about Chimpanzees behaviors. Apart from this I would like to join under you as a research student and like to explore more during the rest of my life.

    P.S. The person who called themself “lemon Juice” and said that Jane was boring on tv, here are a couple things I want to say to you.
    1) She is not boring, she is amazingly smart, and an insperation to all girls (especially ones going for science majors)
    2) You say she is boring, probalby becasue you are a boy and feel threatend by how far she has gotten in life. Deal with it. She has done so much good for chimpanzes
    3)or, perhapes the research of monkeys and their behavior doesn’t intrest you.
