The Legend of Steamboatin’ the Grand Old South

In past years, before super highways, jet planes and fast food, the Mississippi River was a major shipping channel for this country. It was as busy in it’s heyday as the Hollywood Freeway is during rush hour today. To move all this freight, people, and the westward expansion of our country was the steamboat.

Today’s site is a salute to those grand vessels, the river steamboats. There are very few original one left and even fewer in working order. But the site The Legends of Steamboatin’ the Grand Old South salutes those that have gone before, are still here, and may be coming tomorrow. Here a visitor can take a cyber visit of a ship, learn about the history of them (including Sam Clemens), and visit an extensive photo gallery of ships and their crews. It brings back memories of times past, when life was more leisurely, not so fast paced, and if the job didn’t get done today, well, there was always tomorrow.

So enjoy your stop here, have a mint julep, and don’t stay too long. If you do, you’ll start singing “Ol’ Man River” with the best of them.
