The National Civil Rights Museum

Yesterday, we visited a home in Memphis, Tennessee, where one of the great entertainers of all time lived. Today we will stay in Memphis, but visit a site with a different message, but one that came to national prominence at about the same time as the site we visited yesterday.

Called The National Civil Rights Museum, it is physically located in the South Main Historic District of Memphis, in the Lorraine Motel. The location is significant. It is the motel where Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated. At this site you can visit the museum using interactive internet technology (there is a special plug-in needed for your browser, but instructions are included on how to download and install it) that describes the struggle for civil rights in this country. There are directions to the museum, as well as information on tour hours and cost.

If you are interested in the struggles that many American citizens have had to go through in our nation’s history, then this is a site you will want to visit. It shows that the dream of Dr. King is working, and one day we will all be judged not by the color of our skin but the content of our hearts. Enjoy your stop.
