The National D-Day Museum

Today marks the 56th anniversary of one of the milestone events in our nation’s history. On this day, an invasion force landed on the coast of France, the first step in liberating the European continent from the tyranny it had been under for over 6 years. Today’s FamSite looks at a site that honors the Americans that participated in invasion that has become known as D-Day.

The site is the online presence of the National D-Day Museum, which is opening today in New Orleans, Louisiana. Why is it located there, you ask? Any veteran who was in World War II would know why. This city is the home to the Higgins Boat Company, the company who made the landing craft that landed hundreds of thousands of soldiers on foreign beaches during the war (not just in Normandy).
