The Shrine to Don Knotts

One of the major television series of all times was the Andy Griffith Show. The heartwarming and hilarious stories of Andy Taylor, his son Opie, Aunt Bea, and the other citizens of Mayberry are destined to live on in TV rerun heaven for centuries to come. But one of the most beloved characters on the show was Deputy Barney Fife. It is he we salute on today’s Family Site, or rather his creator, Don Knotts.

Don Knotts has had a long and distinguished career on the screen, both movies and television. He was the incredible Mr. Limpet, a man who wanted to be a fish. He was the Shakiest Gun in the West. And, along with being a reluctant astronaut, he managed to become a member of the notorious Apple Dumpling Gang. This site is a salute to Mr. Knotts, and to the laughter he has brought to the millions that have watched his films.

As a bit of trivia, Andy Griffith and Don Knotts had appeared together earlier in their careers, before the Andy Griffith Show. Do you know where or when it was? If you think you do, email me at [email protected] and I will send you the correct answer. As extra credit, the Andy Griffith Show was one of the first television spin-off series. What television show was that?
