Artic Year Expedition
One of the most remote places on our planet is the North Pole. Long rumored to be the home of one Santa Claus, it is in reality a very cold and forbidding place. Yet it is being affected by the changes our planet is undergoing. Those changes, and what is being done to study them is the focus of today’s FamSite.
Called Artic Year Expedition, this site tells about an expedition to the North Pole that will leave in the year 2001. It is comprised of young people ages 18-20, under the guidance of several adult leaders. It will be conducted in three phases, and the number of team members will vary. Their year in this wilderness will be documented online. But here today you can find out about the plans going into this expedition, as well as how the members were selected. There is a section for teachers who might want to use this site in their classrooms, a chance to ask questions of the team, and a fine selection of links to other sites that relate to the Artic. The aim of this website is raise awareness among young people, the decision makers of tomorrow, of the value, beauty and fragility of the Artic.
