Like Television

Yesterday, we visited a site that used technology that was current at the start of the 20th century, almost 100 years ago. Today we go to the other end of that century, and look at what is currently an innovative technology and a very entertaining one.

Today’s FamSite is called Like Television, and is a site that broadcasts streaming movies, music videos, short films, classic television, comedy, sports, news, and weather. The only catch is you don’t watch it on your television, you watch it on your monitor. Taking advantage of Real Player G2 technology, you can now watch the Cream 1968 farewell concert (with extras), or catch an episode of Broderick Crawford in “Highway Patrol”, a chapter from the serial “Radar Men from the Moon” or see a young Jack Nicholson in the original “Little Shop of Horrors”. There is a wide variety of material here, with something for everyone.

Visiting a site with technology like this is both a look at how far we have advanced in 100 years, and a guess at how far we will go in the next hundred. Will our grandchildren and great-grandchildren look on this technology as we do on the examples from yesterday’s site? Only time will tell.
