Memorial Day

Here it is, the first long 3 day weekend in a few months, and the weather if starting to look like summer (at least where I live it is). So it is fitting that we take a few minutes and find out about the holiday that we are celebrating this weekend.

It is the Memorial Day weekend, and that is the name of the FamSite that we are visiting today. It is a site that is sponsored by the History Channel. Here you can learn about the true meaning of this holiday and the sacrifices that the men and women of our military have made for our freedom. The history of the holiday as well as our country’s wars are explained here, with a special emphasis on the Vietnam experience. There is a special forum section for veterans of all wars to share their experience with their fellow servicemen, as well as other visitors.

This holiday is a good one to remember the men and women of our military who have made the ultimate sacrifice. But there are thousands more who are serving in remote locations around the world so that we may enjoy the freedom we have today. Let us remember them as well.
