The Coalwood Way

When we last left the Rocket Boys, they had just fired off their last missile, and went on with their lives. But their story touched a resonant chord in those who read the book “The Rocket Boys” and saw the film “October Sky”. There were lots of requests for more stories and information about Coalwood, and the people who grew up and lived there. Today, those requests are answered with the publication of Homer Hickham’s newest book.

The title of his book is “The Coalwood Way”, and it is not a sequel or a prequel to “The Rocket Boys”, rather it is an equal. That means that the events of both books take place at somewhat the same time. You get a chance to visit (or revisit, as the case may be) the town of Coalwood, West Virginia, and all the fine people that lived there during the late 1950’s. But this site is more than just a nostalgic look the past. There is a feeling of home and family here that is not often found in today’s society. You can order personally autographed copies of his books, explore the Coalwood of today, and learn about all sorts of rocket and space “stuff”. The pictures are truly what make this site so special. You get the feeling that you are there, and being there is most of the fun.
