The history of the British Empire is long and colorful. At one time, the saying was that “the sun never set on the British Empire”, it was that big. For hundreds of years, it was the largest nation in the world, and a large part of the success that contributed to that longevity was today’s website.

The site is the story of the East India Company; a trading company that was granted its charter by Queen Elizabeth. Before you think she hasn’t been queen that long, let me say that it was Queen Elizabeth 1, and the date was December 31st, 1600, almost 400 years ago! Here at this site, you can learn and appreciate a company that helped expand the horizons of its country, and has changed as the fortunes of that country have. Learn about the company’s current activities, as well as past ventures, and how it has managed to survive for so long.

While this is really a commercial site, it has so much history to be experienced; it is a site worth visiting. There is a real sense of not only history here, but tradition as well. Not every company, Microsoft included, can boast of being around and helping to shape the world like this one.
