The Presidents

What significance does the date January 20th have? From a personal and selfish point of view, it is the first anniversary of the WorldVillage Family Site of the Day. It is exactly one year ago that this daily voyage through cyberspace began a journey to boldly go where I had never gone before. The past 365 sites have been a long (and at times strange) trip, but I am looking forward to the next 365 or so sites. A wholehearted thank you to all the visitors of the Family Site of the Day, and keep coming back.

The other significance of this date is that is Inauguration Day. Actually, it is the date that the President of the United States takes the oath of office, once every four years, regular as clockwork, and has been happening since 1789. The date changed in 1936 to January 20th, and if you can guess the previous date it was scheduled on, you win…. absolutely nothing. So today’s Family Site is about several of the men who have risen to that office. It is a product of Public Broadcasting, and is called The American Experience: The Presidents. It is the cyber-companion to the television shows of the same name. These are in-depth looks at Presidents Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Ronald Reagan. They are a well-produced series of shows that show the impact that these 20th Century Presidents have had on all our lives. The site is one of the best companion sites to a topic that is covered in another medium.
