When I was in the Navy, going to school at Treasure Island, California, I spent some time in the Petty Officer’s Club. It was a great place to do what sailors do best when they are off duty. That I will leave to your imagination. But one thing we did was listen to the jukebox, which was filled with country and western music. One song and one artist had a major impact on me, one that lasts to this day, and is the subject of our Family Site of the Day.

The song was “Delta Dawn”, and the singer was Tanya Tucker. She was a few years younger than I was, but her voice sounded much, much better. She made a major impact on the country music scene, both because of her age, and the quality of her music.
