Shakespeare’s Stratford-Upon-the-Web
Growing up in Southern Oregon, I was exposed to Shakespeare at an early age. Ashland Oregon was home to the Oregon Shakespearean Festival, the oldest theatre in North America to continually run his plays. Angus Bowmer, a professor at Southern Oregon College, founded it in 1935. It was due to this theatre’s influence that I started a life-long fascination with the Bard of Avon.
Today’s site will hopefully give a cybersurfer the chance to experience the same enjoyment I did when first encountering Shakespeare. It is called Shakespeare’s Stratford-Upon-the-Web, and is a site dedicated to the works of one William Shakespeare. At this site, a visitor will find links to all the comedies, tragedies and histories, as well as the lesser known sonnets. But it doesn’t stop there. Experience the times of merry old England, and find out what life was all about during the age of Elizabeth, Queen of England, during what is now referred to as the Elizabethan period. Visit a faire, explore English history, and find out the real truth about Henry the Eighth, King of England. There are loads of links to all these areas, and are updated at a regular interval.
Hopefully, this site will encourage visitors to explore the Shakespearean classics, whether for the first time, or the thirty-first. This literature is not dead, but is as alive today as it was 400 years ago. The themes are the same, only the calendar has changed. Enjoy your stop.
